Two pretty beaches surround this complex of pink-sided, white-roofed cottages, and bay grape trees and hibiscus bushes grace its 6.5-hectare (16-acre) oceanfront setting. Away from the congestion of Hamilton, this is the largest cottage colony on Bermuda, attracting an affluent international crowd. The staff, among the best on the island, includes people who have been with Pink Beach since it opened for the first time in 1947.
Major improvements, completed after Hurricane Fabian in 2003, have made this hotel sparkle. Rooms are each configured as either a suite or a junior suite, and include restyled marble bathrooms fitted with cherry-wood cabinetry, tub/shower combinations, Italian tile floors, and plantation-style furnishings. All units have a generously proportioned bedroom/sitting area, a fully equipped kitchen, a good-size bathroom, a patio, and an outdoor terrace or veranda. The most luxurious accommodations include a quartet of oceanfront suites. These are ideal for honeymooners or other couples, or even families seeking spacious accommodations. The Pink Beach Club's public areas have working fireplaces that take the chill off some Bermuda evenings.
The heart of the colony is the limestone clubhouse, with a dining room that's sheathed in wood paneling. Vegetables, many of them grown nearby, and fresh seafood go into the international cuisine. Every table provides a view of the ocean, and occasionally of a celebrity diner (often an off-the-record actor or rock star) on discreet getaway from the madding crowds. The food is nicely prepared, and served indoors, except during clement weather and when business warrants, in which case an additional outdoor dining terrace is available, in effect creating a second restaurant with an entirely separate set of menus. Breakfast here is a treat; request it the night before and a maid will serve you on your private terrace.
