Frommer's Review
More than 400 flavor-filled items are on this predominantly Cantonese menu (40 dim sum items alone). Samples include pan-cooked Shanghai dumplings, stuffed crispy duck packed with crabmeat, steamed eel in bean sauce, and a variety of tasty casseroles. Specialties include deep-fried stuffed crab claws or steamed beef dumplings. A delight is the steamed whole sea bass with ginger and spring onion. To go really authentic and sample some of the dishes the local Chinese community likes, try fried frogs' legs with bitter melon, steamed pork pie with dried or fresh squid, or fish cakes.
Chung Ying Garden, another restaurant owned by the same proprietor, is at 17 Thorpe St. (tel. 0121/666-6622).
