Frommer's Review
A 12th-century manor, reputedly the oldest in England, has been converted into a luxurious country house hotel residing outside the city of Birmingham. The location is in a leafy suburb where a tree-lined drive leads to 10 hectares (26 acres) of gardens and this moated manor at a point 11km (7 miles) northeast of the center. This is one of the best places in England for a romantic escape. All the bedrooms are furnished sumptuously and luxuriously, with all the modern amenities, including state-of-the-art marble and tile bathrooms with tub and shower. Most of the well-accessorized guest rooms are in a more contemporary addition. The public rooms are even more gracious, especially the 16th-century oak-paneled dining room where an award-winning chef serves an innovative Continental cuisine. The public rooms are lit by 18th-century chandeliers and a stone fireplace is from the 17th century.
