The dining scene in Bodrum has been held to a higher standard than those of its Aegean and Mediterranean counterparts. Menus cater to an "international" clientele -- read: international wallet. But in all fairness, the concentration of high-quality restaurants makes you empty your wallet willingly. If you're looking for a humble meal, head to the streets around the PTT (post office) near Cevat Sakir Street, a busy local neighborhood with good fast-food options such as lahmacun as well as pleasant little lokantas with large bins of fresh bread on the table.
Bodrum's Favorite Snacks -- Locals flock to Tatlici, hidden in the maze of streets near "Meyhane Sokak" (from the Tourist Information office, follow Kale Sok., turn right into Meyhane Sok., then right again into a small passageway that will put you back onto Meyhane Sok.), for what they consider to be the best börek in town; by 10am, they're mostly all picked over. Karadeniz Pastanesi (Barlar Sokak, near the main square) has a window full of cakes, cookies, and breads, plus sandwiches and single helpings.
