Frommer's Review
Foodies from all over travel to the unlikely village of Imola to savor the offerings of what some food critics (ourselves included) consider the best restaurant in Italy. San Domenico can also be easily reached from Ravenna. The cuisine is sometimes compared to France's modern creations. However, owner Gian Luigi Morini claims his delectable offerings are nothing more than adaptations of festive regional dishes, except that they're lighter, more subtle, and served in manageable portions.
A tuxedo-clad member of his talented young staff will escort you to a table near the tufted leather banquettes. Meals include heavenly concoctions made with the freshest ingredients. You might select gooseliver pâté studded with white truffles, fresh shrimp in creamy sweet-bell-pepper sauce, roast rack of lamb with fresh rosemary, stuffed chicken supreme wrapped in lettuce leaves, or fresh handmade spaghetti with shellfish. Signor Morini has collected some of the best vintages in Europe for the past 30 years, with some bottles of cognac dating from the time of Napoleon.
