Grand Hotel Baglioni

The Baglioni boasts a location near Bologna's main square and is a superb atmospheric choice, a favorite of celebrities ranging from Woody Allen to Naomi Campbell; even Lady Di slept here. Its four-story facade is crafted of the same reddish brick that distinguishes many of the city's older buildings, and the interior is noted for its wall and ceiling frescoes. In fact, the restaurant frescoes were painted by the Carracci brothers in the 16th century, and part of an old Roman road can be seen on the way to the breakfast room. Each soundproof guest room contains reproductions of antique furniture, good beds, and modern conveniences. They're generally spacious, with the fourth-floor units being the largest. The marble bathrooms come with deluxe toiletries. There's also an excellent restaurant, I Carracci.
