If you need a break from "rustic charm," this is the hotel for you, dating from 1375, just 50m (164 ft.) from Piazza Maggiore. In the 14th century, the "Red Hat" in the hotel's name referred to the preferred headgear of the privileged tradesmen who stayed here. Now the hotel has been revamped into an ultramodern place with no hint of its past: The guest rooms tend to be modular, small to medium in size, each with a good bed. Bathrooms are smallish. Breakfast is the only meal served. The staff is willing to help.
