Captain Don's Habitat Review

Built on a coral bluff overlooking the sea just north of Kralendijk, this informal, congenial dive resort was created by Captain Don Stewart, Caribbean legend, former Californian, and the godfather of Bonaire's passionate protection of its marine environment. More than 90% of guests come on vacation-length dive packages, so side-trip stays of 1 or 2 nights are hard to arrange. The accommodations, which include cottages and one- and two-bedroom villas, are bright and airy. Some have a balcony or patio, many feature fully equipped kitchens, and some have phones. All rooms have air-conditioning. The resort's tiny beach is good for snorkeling, and the on-site Intermezzio Day Spa (tel. 599/717-8290) is great for relaxing. One-hour massages, body wraps, or facials start at only $75.

Facilities:
Restaurant; pizza bar; outdoor bar; babysitting; outdoor pool; free Wi-Fi throughout the property; dive center; rooms for those w/limited mobility

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
