Plaza Resort Bonaire Review

Bonaire's only large-scale resort, the Plaza sprawls over nearly 5 hectares (12 acres) of tropical grounds bordered by a saltwater lagoon and a long stretch of natural beach. The nine two-story buildings have white walls and terra-cotta roofs, creating a sunny village connected by a pair of bridges that cross the lagoon, the site of a full-service dive and boat shop. The sparsely appointed rooms have terra-cotta tile floors, rattan furniture, and spacious balconies or terraces that emphasize the tropical locale. Although the units referred to as "suites" have no room dividers, they boast 56 to 65 sq. m (603-700 sq. ft.) of space. Suites feature fridges, and the larger one- and two-bedroom villas boast kitchenettes. All units have grand bathrooms, with the toilet located in a separate "water closet."

Facilities: 3 restaurants; bar; babysitting; bike and scooter rentals; children's program; concierge; exercise room; large outdoor pool; children's pool; room service; spa; 4 tennis courts lit for night play; dive and watersports center; rooms for those w/limited mobility

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
