Bora Bora has some of French Polynesia's finest and most expensive resorts, and yet another -- the superluxe Four Seasons Bora Bora (www.fourseasons.com) -- was scheduled to open in September 2008 on Motu Tehotu, on the eastern side of the lagoon.
A mainstay on the island since 1961, the luxurious Hotel Bora Bora (tel. 800/421-1490 or 60.44.11; www.amanresorts.com) was slated to close in October 2008 for a complete rebuilding. It is expected to reopen in time for its 50th anniversary in 2011.
Be Prepared for Mosquitoes & No-Nos -- Keep in mind that mosquitoes and no-nos (sand flies) love to feast on guests on Bora Bora's motus, so you'll want a good supply of insect repellent if you opt to stay at one of the offshore resorts.
