Frommer's Review

This centrally located 22-story hotel is a busy convention and business destination during the week, and on weekends its excellent packages make it a magnet for sightseers and families. The eco-friendly Hyatt chain has spent millions upgrading the property since acquiring it in 2003, and it shows in everything from the pillow-top mattresses to the top-notch service. The building's plain exterior conceals elegant European-style appointments from the second-floor lobby on up. Guest rooms surround four atriums, creating the effect of several small hotels in one. Soft earth tones predominate, with lots of cushy upholstery and luxe linens on the king-size or (in about one-quarter of the units) two double beds. Rooms are spacious enough to hold sitting areas, desks, and settees. Ask for a unit on a high floor -- adjacent Washington Street is likely to be awash in construction during your visit.

Facilities: Restaurant (American/Continental); bar; 52-ft. indoor pool; newly renovated health club; steam room; sauna; concierge; business center; 24-hr. room service; massage; babysitting; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; executive-level rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
