Frommer's Review

This centrally located 22-story hotel lives two lives: It's a busy convention and business destination during the week, and its excellent weekend packages make it a magnet for sightseers and families. Hyatt has sunk well over $10 million into the property since acquiring it in 2003, and everything from the pillow-top mattresses to the top-notch service reflects that commitment. The building's plain exterior contrasts with the elegant European style and luxurious appointments that take over in the second-floor lobby. Guest rooms cluster around four atriums and have semiprivate lobbies, creating the effect of several small hotels in one. Rooms are decorated in soft earth tones, with lots of cushy upholstery and luxe linens on the king-size or (in about one-quarter of the units) European twin-size beds. They have flat-screen TVs and are large enough to hold sitting areas, desks, and settees. Ask for a room on a high floor -- this neighborhood was an eyesore even before construction began all along adjacent Washington Street.

Facilities:Restaurant (American/Continental); bar; 52-ft. indoor pool; newly renovated health club; steam room; sauna; concierge; business center; 24-hr. room service; massage; babysitting; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; executive-level rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility
