Frommer's Review

Nonstop pampering, high-tech appointments, and outrageously luxurious rooms make this the name to drop with the expense-be-hanged set. The meticulously maintained 10-story boutique hotel has attracted demanding travelers, especially businesspeople, since it opened in 2000. Management bends over backward to keep the loyal clientele returning, with lavish perks like business cards listing the personal phone and fax numbers guests have during their stay. The guest rooms, individually decorated in an austere but plush style that's more SoHo than Beacon Hill, contain queen-size canopy beds with Frette linens, surround-sound stereo systems, gas fireplaces, and 4-inch TVs in the bathroom. "Studio" units have a sitting area. The pricey steakhouse in the lobby is one of the best places in the city to see (or be) movers and shakers, especially at breakfast.

Facilities:
Restaurant (steakhouse); bar; fitness room; access to nearby health club ($15); concierge; courtesy car; 24-hr. room service; in-room massage; babysitting; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; rooms for those w/limited mobility

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
