XV Beacon ReviewNonstop pampering, high-tech appointments, and outrageously luxurious rooms make this Boston's premier boutique hotel. The meticulously maintained 10-story property has attracted demanding travelers, especially businesspeople and international visitors, since it opened in 2000, and management bends over backward to keep the loyal clientele returning. The guest rooms, individually decorated in an austere but plush style that's more SoHo than Beacon Hill, contain king- and queen-size beds with Frette linens, surround-sound stereo systems, gas fireplaces, 42-inch flatscreens, and 4-inch TVs in the bathroom. "Studio" units have a sitting area. The Ames and Nine Zero, which are part of fancy chains, are the main competition; this smaller independent property gets the nod from its high-maintenance fans. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
