Review of Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art

This multidisciplinary art museum, created in 1972 to exhibit the work of contemporary artists, has evolved into an exciting venue where one can expect to see almost anything art-related, from the lighthearted to the elegant, political to religious, by regional and international contemporary artists. There are special programs for young children and a variety of other events throughout the year. Performing arts--from poetry and dance to music and drama--are occasionally presented in the museum’s “black box” performance venue. There are free tours during Farmer’s Market (summer Sat) at 11am and kids’ programs. Allow 30 to 45 minutes.

In addition, a separate organization puts on Saturday-evening movie screenings in the adjacent parking lot in summer; classic movies such as Citizen Kane and cult favorites are shown outside ($5 suggested donation per person; see www.boulderoutdoorcinema.com for information). Take a lawn chair or blanket.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
