St Julien Hotel & Spa ReviewThe first new hotel in downtown Boulder since the Boulderado debuted in 1909, the swank St Julien instantly raised the bar for lodging in Boulder when it opened in 2005. The flagstone and Norman brick exterior, accented by patina copper and red roof tiles, sheaths a sumptuous lobby and exquisite guest rooms, averaging a healthy 400 square feet each. Everything from the walnut floors to the luxurious linens to the premium bathroom amenities to the artistic Boulder photographs on the wall is first-rate. Honeyed tones and French doors accent the guest rooms, which feature either one California king or two queens. The bathrooms are the best in town; there are separate tubs and showers in every granite-laden one. Perks include live music Tuesday through Saturday in the lobby or picture-perfect back terrace, a two-lane lap pool, and a spa that offers “indigenous therapies” using local minerals and plants. Expect to be wowed. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
