Frommer's Review
This early-20th-century Liberty-style edifice takes up an entire city block just a few hundred meters from both the train station and Piazza Walther. Though it's full of modern comforts, the quirky old structure gives it character and style (and plenty of windows), and rarely are any two rooms alike. The modern furnishings reinterpret antique styles, such as angular postmodern settees or exaggeratedly swooping Empire-style chairs lacquered black and red. Rooms are spacious, with walk-in closets featuring trouser presses and mottled gray marble bathrooms (except in suites). "Comfort" rooms are roughly the same as "superior," but they're smaller and all face the street. About half the "superior" rooms overlook the garden (all of the larger "de-luxe" ones do), while the others face downtown. Suites are like mini-apartments with a hall off of which open the bedroom, a tiny sitting room (often with a balcony), and the bathroom (in brown marble with double sinks and separate tub and shower stalls); one even has its own sauna. The hotel's real selling point is its large, landscaped garden of flower-lined and tree-shaded gravel paths; the restaurant even moves out here in summer to a gravelly terrace shaded by a canopy.
Facilities: Italian restaurant; period bar; outdoor heated pool; children's center and small playground; concierge; tour desk; car-rental desk; room service for a 5€ ($6.50) service fee; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning (same day); nonsmoking rooms.
