Frommer's Review
Not even a devastating fire could keep down the pride and joy of Breaux Bridge, a charming cafe that features local art and often live music in addition to meals so good at least one recent customer thought his breakfast (eggs Begnaud -- eggs on a grilled biscuit topped with crawfish étouffée) was worth driving up from New Orleans for. (And don't forget the crielle de couchon -- fried dough in the shape of pigs' ears! You can get them stuffed with boudin, or the omelets stuffed with tasso, with a side of andouille-cheese grits.) At dinner try the crabmeat Napoleon or the crawfish corn bread topped with shrimp, and be sure to order the drum with andouille sausage and shrimp topped with garlic shrimp sauce (you have to order it this way, but the combination is perfect). Save room for the superb creamy white-chocolate bread pudding. This restaurant is hugely popular with locals, so expect a wait on the weekends (among a bunch of older Creole men nursing full glasses of whiskey on the rocks -- for breakfast). Weekends they start seating at 7:30am, and the band goes on at 8:30am Saturday.
