Chez Jacqueline

This cafe next door to higher-profile Café des Amis is a small, unfussy restaurant, where the busy chef is also the bartender; eat here only when you can linger. The food is sufficient though not exceptional, but Jacqueline is a hoot. Her menu is divided into two parts, Cajun and French. Try les huitres au gratin (oysters baked with garlic, butter, and Parmesan cheese), or a nicely crisped veal cordon bleu. Banana cake is moist and not overly sweet. They also serve a zydeco breakfast on weekends and can create special menus with advance request.
