Located uphill from the Main Street traffic light, the Briar Rose is among the town's most elegant (but still casual) restaurants. Classical paintings, fine music, and linen service underscore Briar Rose's sophisticated atmosphere. The adjoining trophy bar and lounge has big-game heads, sports memorabilia, and a 100-year-old back bar. In fine weather you can dine alfresco while gazing at the surrounding mountains from the new deck outside the lounge. You can start with escargot, crab-stuffed mushrooms, coconut shrimp, wild game sausage, or homemade soup. Dinners feature game -- usually elk, buffalo, and caribou. Other popular choices include slow-roasted prime rib, veal, steak, duck, lamb, fresh seafood, and vegetarian and pasta entrees. A children's menu is available, and the extensive wine list offers domestic and imported wines.
