Planning a Trip

Getting There -- Bregenz is the most important railway station in western Austria, where dozens of trains arrive from Zurich, Munich, Innsbruck, and Vienna throughout the day. The trip from Innsbruck takes about 3 hours and occasionally requires a change of train at Feldkirch. Although it's easier to arrive here by train, several bus lines make the trip to Bregenz. For train and bus information, call tel. 05/1717 (www.oebb.at).

If you're driving from Innsbruck, take Route 171 west (passing through the Arlberg Tunnel) into Vorarlberg, and then follow the S19 west until you hook up with the A14 Autobahn going north.

Visitor Information -- At the tourist office, Bregenz-Tourismus, Bahnhofstrasse 14 (tel. 05574/49590), you can pick up a map for a walking tour of the Old Town. It's open year-round Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm, Saturday from 9am to noon.
