Frommer's Review

This sandstone and ponderosa pine lodge, which opened in 1924, is the perfect place to stay while exploring Bryce Canyon National Park. Located near the Rim Trail, the lodge provides extremely close access to the rim, which is the ideal spot for watching the play of changing light on the rock formations at various times of the day.

What you're paying for here is location, but we have no complaints with the facilities, either. Guests can choose from three types of accommodations. The luxurious lodge suites are wonderful, with white wicker furniture, ceiling fans, and separate sitting rooms. The motel units are simply pleasant modern motel rooms, with two queen-size beds and either a balcony or a patio. Our choice is one of the historic cabins, restored to their 1920s appearance. They're not large, but they have two double beds, high ceilings, stone (gas-burning) fireplaces, and log beams -- you might call the ambience "rustic luxury." The gift shop has one of the best selections of American Indian jewelry in the area, and, of course, a variety of postcards and souvenirs, and there are information desks for horseback riding and other activities in the lobby. All units are nonsmoking.

Restaurant; activities desk
