Frommer's Review

The Pan Americano is an enormous hotel, facing both the Obelisco and the Teatro Colón and offering convenient access to tourist sites as well as virtually all of the subte lines that converge at this part of the city. Now that it is no longer part of the American Crowne Plaza chain, the prices have gone down considerably for some of the rooms, a welcome trend in Buenos Aires when most rates are increasing. The quality and service remain the same as before. The South Tower's rooms are a good size, but the North Tower rooms are larger and better appointed. For the small difference in price, they're worth asking for. Decor also varies here; some rooms are fully carpeted, while others offer elegant hardwood floors. Bathrooms are also larger, with whirlpool tubs and separate shower units, and marble counters and floors. Valet presses are also standard in the North Tower rooms. All rooms in both towers come with desks, extra side chairs, and ample closet space. The hotel's health club, spa, and sauna are perhaps the most amazing and magical in the city and must be experienced, if only for the view. They're in a three-level glass box on the top of the North Tower. Swimming in its heated pool, which is both indoors and outdoors, as well as working out on its various machines, gives the feeling of floating above Avenida 9 de Julio. The health club's restaurant, Kasuga, becomes a sushi bar at night. Two other restaurants are located in the gracious and inspiring lobby with Greek frescoes and dark wood and marble accents. Lucíernaga, where breakfast is served, is enormous, but its niche-filled layout and Jacobean-tapestry upholstered furniture offer an intimate feeling; it also serves as the main lobby bar. Tomo I has a modern decor, and both offer international, Argentine, and Italian cuisine.

Facilities:
3 restaurants; enormous health club w/indoor-outdoor pool; spa; sauna; concierge; business center; salon; room service; massage service; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning
