Frommer's Review

German-born tango enthusiast Regina Huber has made a small bed-and-breakfast out of her home in Palermo Viejo. There are only two rooms here, but guests have virtual run of the place. The lobby, really a living room and dining room, is decorated in peach and colonial furniture, and opens up into her atrium courtyard, which is also used for tango practice. The name of the hotel comes from the lunfardo word "Garufa," which refers to a man who spends his nights at milongas and rarely comes home. It's also a famous song by Tita Merello, an icon in Argentina, and worth finding a recording of while you're visiting. Regina says she wants "to make you feel at home here" and offers excellent tips on where to go in Buenos Aires. Many of her guests hail from Europe and she has received stellar reviews on TripAdvisor. When Regina is not at home, she has a daily housekeeper, and she is also always available by cellphone if guests need help. Each room has air-conditioning and its own bathroom and is tastefully decorated, with mirrors and tiles embedded in the polished concrete floors. The beds are also very firm, excellent for a night's rest after acting like a Garufa all over town. When you wake up, you get a full German breakfast -- which means going out and working it all off later that night once again. There is a free Internet station and a pleasant rooftop terrace complete with an asado that guests can use.

Facilities:
Business center; Internet station; asado; laundry service
