Review of The AbbeyThe Abbey Visitor Centre is a good starting point for a visit to the entire abbey precinct. (The abbey itself is in ruins today and sits in the middle of the Abbey Gardens.) The Visitor Centre is housed in the west front of the abbey's remains and uses a clever series of displays to give the visitor an idea of what life was like in this powerful abbey, from its beginnings in 1020 to its dissolution in 1539. A tour of the Abbey Gardens is led by medieval monk Brother Jocelin; book it through the town's Tourist Information Centre at tel. 01284/764667 (www.burystedmunds.com). | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
