One of Cahors's best brasseries lies within a historic 14th-century building whose dining room is lined with medieval masonry and capped with massive ceiling beams. The only way meals are choreographed at this popular spot involves full fixed-price menus, each with a choice of at least four food items per category (that is, a minimum of four starters, four main courses, and four desserts). So you'll find a wide enough variety to please any palate. Menu items include a creamy, saffron-tinged version of mussel soup; homemade foie gras with quince jam; a changing array of fresh grilled fish, served, perhaps, with broccoli-studded risotto. Cheese may be substituted for any desserts on the menu, and if so, expect an esoteric type that may have derived from a small farm nearby.
