Located in the historic Dominion Bank building just across from the Centre for the Performing Arts, Téatro delivers the best New Italian cooking in Calgary. The high-ceilinged dining room is dominated by columns and huge panel windows, bespeaking class and elegance. The extensive menu is based on "Italian Market Cuisine," featuring what's seasonally best and freshest, which is then cooked skillfully and simply to preserve natural flavors; some of the best dishes come from the wood-fired oven that dominates one wall. For lighter appetites, there's a large selection of antipasti, boutique pizzas, and salads; the entrees, featuring Alberta beef, veal, pasta, and seafood, are prepared with flair and innovation. Lobster and scallop ravioli is a favorite. Service is excellent.
