20km (12 miles) S of Pforzheim, 66km (41 miles) N of Freudenstadt
Many residents of other parts of Germany call Calw (the w is silent) the most appealingly folkloric town in the Black Forest. Hermann Hesse, who was born here in 1877, described Calw as "the most beautiful place I know."
