Cenobio dei Dogi Review

This Ligurian getaway sits just above the sea at one end of town and against the forested flank of Monte Portofino. The oldest part of the hotel incorporates an aristocratic villa dating from 1565; a chapel, still occasionally used as such, dates from the 17th century. Converted to a hotel in 1956, the premises now include several wings that wrap graciously around a garden on one side and a series of terraces facing the sea on the other. There’s a pool and a private beach, and several airy salons, including a lovely bar and lounge area and a glass-enclosed breakfast room that hangs over the sea. The guest rooms vary considerably in size and shape, but all are furnished with a tasteful mix of reproduction writing desks, contemporary glass-top tables, and—especially in “standard”-category rooms—island-style furnishings (rattan, bent bamboo headboards, and the like). Many overlook the sea and have balconies, and a few have terraces that lead directly to the pool.

Facilities:
2 Ligurian/international restaurants (1 at beach); 2 bars; babysitting; bikes; concierge; exercise room and sauna across the street; nearby golf course; 2 pools (indoor and outdoor saltwater pool); outdoor lighted tennis courts; watersports equipment/rentals

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
