On 46 sylvan acres, this private and rather prim and proper inn occupying an 1810 English-style mansion is a nice retreat if you're looking for tranquillity. Guest rooms are pretty and romantic, and each is uniquely decorated, with such touches as Oriental rugs and antiques, French doors, and fireplaces (there are an incredible 11 in the house). A lot of care is taken with the inn's ambience, especially at breakfast, which is served fireside by candlelight in the formal dining room. The enclosed garden porch is a lovely spot to sip afternoon tea, and the library is a private nook in which to plunge into a good book. The emphasis on elegance and old-world refinement will not suit everyone, though many visitors will be in heaven.
