Boating Burley Griffin Boat Hire, Barrine Drive, near the ferry terminal, Acton (tel. 02/6249 6861), rents paddle boats for A$25 (US$23/£12) per hour, kayaks for A$15 (US$14/£7) and two-person canoes for A$20 (US$18/£9) per hour. It's open daily from September until May. Swimming Swim in the wake of Ian Thorpe and other famous Australian super-swimmers. The indoor heated pool at the Australian Institute of Sport (tel. 02/6214 1281), Leverrier Crescent, Bruce, a short drive northwest of Civic, is open to the public at certain times during the day (call ahead to check schedules). Adults pay A$4.50 (US$4.05/£2) to swim, and children pay A$3 (US$2.70/£1.35). You must wear swimming caps, which you can buy there for A$2.50 (US$2.25/£1.15). It costs A$8 (US$7.20/£3.60) to use the pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna. Tennis The National Sports Club, Mouat Street, Lyneham (tel. 02/6248 9490), has tennis, squash, and indoor sports facilities. Call for court bookings and prices. The Australian Institute of Sport also rents courts.
