Gustino

JW Marriott's signature restaurant Gustino offers romantic Italian dining unsurpassed in Cancún. The exquisite dining room boasts a gorgeous centerpiece candle display, floor-to-ceiling windows looking out to a lazy man-made lagoon and the beach beyond, and live saxophone. The meal begins with a heaping basket of fresh-made Italian breads, including a flavorful basil and tomato focaccia. For an antipasto, the unusual pear carpaccio with Parmesan nuggets and caramelized grapes tastes sublime, as do the sautéed shrimp in a white wine sauce with capers and roasted celery crouton. I also love the warm tossed spinach salad, topped with pancetta, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, and walnuts. Expertly prepared main dishes include open lasagna with lobster and black olives, and roasted loin of venison with a stuffed potato croquette. The menu, which changes seasonally, features other homemade pastas and succulent steak and seafood selections. Gustino houses a wine cellar with an excellent variety of international grapes. Service is outstanding.
