There's no escaping the fact that this traditional Mexican restaurant, which replicates an early-17th century hacienda in the northern state of Durango, looks out of place next to a row of discotheques in history-free Cancún. But if you're spending your entire trip in town, this may be your first opportunity to see what a Spanish colonial hacienda is supposed to look like. Popular with families and large groups, this festive restaurant serves authentic Mexican cuisine representing several regions. One popular option is the mixed parillada for two, which combines meat, seafood, and chicken with enough calories to feed a small village. I recommend the flavorful fish tacos, shrimp pastor with grilled pineapple, or filet mignon prepared with four chilies. A number of fish and meat dishes are prepared tableside, and the tortillas are homemade. Vegetarian tacos with a cilantro sauce are also available. The restaurant offers 100 types of tequila and mariachi music nightly.
