The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, at the intersection of routes 6 and 132 (accessed from the exit ramp of Exit 6 off Rte. 6), in Hyannis (tel. 888/332-2732 or 508/862-0700; fax 508/362-2156; www.capecodchamber.org); Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce, Beach Road, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568 (tel. 508/693-0085; fax 508/693-7589; www.mvy.com); and Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, 48 Main St., Nantucket, MA 02554 (tel. 508/228-1700; fax 508/325-4925; www.nantucketchamber.org), can provide location-specific information and answer any questions that may arise. On Nantucket, there is also Nantucket Visitor Services located on 25 Federal St. (tel. 508/228-0925), a visitor information center that keeps a list of lodging availability on the island.

In addition, most towns on the Cape have their own chambers of commerce, which are listed in the relevant chapters that follow. All chamber offices have small town guides that include detailed maps of the town. You can print out your own map before you go from http://world.maporama.com.

The American Automobile Association (AAA; tel. 800/222-8252) will provide a complimentary map and guide covering the area to its members.

    Hostel Information

    Hostelling International/American Youth Hostels (tel. 202/783-6161; www.hihostels.com) offers low-cost dorm accommodations at four sites on the Cape and islands. Rates vary but average around $25 per person per night for nonmembers; members pay $22. Membership is $28 a year for adults, $18 for adults over 54, free for children under 18. Note that there's a "lockout" period (typically 10am-5pm daily), and, likely, a limit on the length of stay. HI/AYH properties are located in Eastham, just off the bike trail; in a former Coast Guard station overlooking Ballston Beach in Truro; adjoining the 4,000-acre Manuel F. Correllus State Forest in West Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard; and in an 1874 lifesaving station on Surfside Beach on Nantucket.

    Sports Information

    Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce (tel. 508/862-0700; fax 508/362-2156; www.capecodchamber.org) offers a list of fishing and sporting contacts. Those interested in outdoor activities will find reams of info through the Great Outdoor Recreation Pages (www.gorp.com). Birders should call the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History (tel. 508/896-3867) for info about the Cape Cod Bird Club or call the Birdwatchers General Store in Orleans (tel. 508/255-6974) for top spots and the latest sightings.
