Buitenverwachting

Like Uitsig, Buitenverwachting (meaning "Above Expectation") is situated on one of the historic Constantia wine farms, with lovely views and an exceptional reputation. It's perhaps more formal and more expensive, but the food is also better -- it wows almost everyone who eats here. A rising star, Austrian chef Edgar Osojnik combines local ingredients with international techniques and flavors to turn out inspired dishes, such as pumpkin-encrusted ostrich, served with its own tartare; beef crusted in marrow; grilled springbok loin flavored with hanepoot chutney; and quail saltimbocca. No need to make choices, however -- there's a great tasting menu, with as many courses as you can handle.
