Frommer's Review
Like Uitsig, Buitenverwachting (meaning "Above Expectation") is situated on one of the historic Constantia wine farms, with lovely views and an exceptional reputation. But Buitenverwachting is more formal and more expensive, and from a consistency point of view, the food is also better -- it wows almost everyone who eats here and tends to make it into the top three of every food critic's Cape listing. Austrian chef Edgar Osojnik combines local ingredients with international techniques and flavors, like preparing kingklip in the tandoor and serving it with gingered bisque and basmati-pea samosas, or creating a creamy polenta-spinach soup and topping it with osso buco tartlets. Crayfish is pan-fried and served with a linguine Nero and seafood bisque. End with the "chocolate variation" -- it's a masterpiece. A less pricey option is Café Petit in the courtyard, which is open for lunch. You can also arrange for takeout picnic fare.
