Manna Epicure

A wonderful all-white venue at the top of bustling Kloof Street (aka "the Dining Mile"), Manna attracts an interesting and glamorous post-30 crowd -- all with big sunglasses and groomed hair -- and the food is just as interesting. It's probably my favorite casual lunchtime haunt. Service can be slow, but with so much to look at, who cares? Dishes worth looking for are the roasted aubergine with toasted pecan nuts and gorgonzola; the ostrich burger with pear, granadilla, and onion chutney; and a simple, zestful homemade linguine with steamed asparagus and herb and lemon butter. An array of delicious cocktails and fresh breads complete the picture; the latter are served with every meal and can be bought from the in-house bakery -- if they're not sold out.
