Fritz Hotel ReviewFritz Hotel is within easy reach of the Kloof Street restaurant strip, right on the edge of the city center, furnished with an eclectic selection of Art Deco and 1950s antiques (collected by Swiss owner Arthur Bisig). It's more like a large colonial-style guesthouse (Edwardian, with Victorian bits) than a hotel, but it remains a bargain, with neatly maintained, individually styled bedrooms, all with knock-off designer beds. Ask for a room that opens onto the first-floor wraparound veranda; they have high ceilings and wood floors, and room nos. 6 and 14 are the biggest. Room no. 11 is small but has a great view of Table Mountain from the bed. Breakfasts and drinks are served in the relaxed, breezy courtyard. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
