Originally built in 1913, this hotel was the headquarters of the local Nazi regiments during World War II. Reopening in late April 2005 after a change in ownership, the hotel was transformed from a grand but rather dowdy family-owned monument into a streamlined and glossy-looking member of a big-time nationwide chain. Bedrooms are high-ceilinged and each of a different shape, layout, and size; some are quite spacious, others a bit cramped. Touches of old-fashioned charm remain, thanks to the presence in many of the rooms of Art Deco pieces originally brought into the hotel during the late 1920s. The hotel lies in the heart of La Ville Basse, adjacent to the railway station and the Canal du Midi, about 3.2km (2 miles) from the medieval Cité.
