Rawlins Plantation Inn (St. Kitts; tel. 800/346-5358 in the U.S., or 869/465-6221): Surrounded by 5 hectares (12 acres) of carefully manicured lawns and tropical shrubbery, and set on a panoramic hillock about 100m (330 ft.) above sea level, this hotel with its rugs of locally woven rushes and carved four-poster beds evokes a 19th-century plantation. You'll be separated from the rest of the island by hundreds of acres of sugar cane, and there are few phones and no televisions.
