Patagonia Baker Lodge

This is one place really focused on fly-fishing enthusiasts' needs, from McKenzie drift boats to zodiacs to a tie-table in an upstairs lounge with a glacier view to sit down and prepare to outsmart the fish. The lodge rests on the waterfront of the Baker River, the most powerful in the country, but downstream of the planned dams. At this point, the crystal-clear river is relatively wide, nearing Lake Bertrand, and the lodge takes in the marvelous view of the forest, topped off by Andean glaciers. It has roughly 1,000 sq. m (10,764 sq. ft.) of floor space but just six double rooms, all with a river view. The white-shingle, green metal-roofed building is one-storied except for the double-story lounge, decorated with Gothic wall tapestries and featuring a terrace overlooking the river. The carpeted rooms are conservative in style, with comfortable beds, tan- and cream-colored walls, and wood-burning stoves. Fishing season runs from late October to late April. The lodge can receive up to 24 guests.
