There's no better way to see Castro's signature architectural monuments than by staying in one. I have been waiting years for someone to open a hotel in a palafito, and finally it has happened in this restored house in the famous Gamboa district. The construction is wood from the floor to the ceiling and lots of windows let in ample light. The rooms are quite plain, with little more than a nightstand and lamp, though all have private bathrooms. Contemporary art adorns the walls throughout the building, plus there's a small lounge area with a wood-burning stove and an outdoor patio right over the water.
