Durable and resilient, having survived periods that sent some of its competitors into bankruptcy, Brac Reef Beach Resort is the most visible hotel on Cayman Brac. Once the location was little more than a maze of sea grapes, whose venerable trunks still rise amid the picnic tables, hammocks, and boardwalks. The resort is family-friendly and family-run. Don't expect grandeur or anything approaching urban style or posh: It simply isn't part of the equation here. Situated on a sandy plot of land on the south shore 3km (2 miles) east of the airport, this resort is near some of the best snorkeling in the region. The motel-style units are comfortably furnished with carpeting, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, and tub/shower-combination bathrooms. The nature trails that surround the resort are great for bird-watching. Lunches are informal affairs, and dinners are most often served buffet-style under the stars. The bar is one of Cayman Brac's most popular with visitors.
