Getting There
The modern Juan Vitalio Acuña Airport (tel. 45/24-8141; airport code CYO) accepts international traffic. Charter flights arrive here from Canada and Europe regularly throughout the year, with greater frequency during the high season. There are also daily flights here from Havana by AeroCaribbean (tel. 45/24-8364 or tel. 7/879-7524 in Havana). These are best booked in Havana with any of the many tour agencies. Fares are CUC$108 (US$117/£58) and run around CUC$137 (US$148/£74) for the day tour. A taxi from the airport to any hotel on the island costs between CUC$3 and CUC$6 (US$3.25-US$6.50/£1.60-£3.25).
The Marina Internacional Cayo Largo del Sur (tel. 45/24-8213; www.nauticamarlin.com) is an official port of entry to Cuba. If you're arriving by sea, contact the marina before entering Cuban waters (19km/12 miles offshore) on VHF channel 16 or 19.
Getting Around
There's a shuttle that periodically runs a route connecting the marina and all the major resort hotels here; fare is CUC$1 (US$1.10/55p). Taxis are also readily available on Cayo Largo. A ride anywhere on the island costs between CUC$2 and CUC$10 (US$2.15-US$11/£1.10-£5.40). You can also rent a car or scooter from Transtur (tel. 45/24-8245), which has desks at most of the hotels on the island, as well as at the airport. Rates run about CUC$8 (US$8.65/£4.30) per hour for the first hour on a scooter, and about CUC$3 (US$3.25/£1.60) per hour for each additional hour; it's CUC$60 (US$65/£32) per day for a small jeep, including your first tank of gas and insurance.
