Frommer's Review
Did your doctor warn you about eating too many fried foods? Table that admonition if you head here. The cooks make an art of Low Country frying, serving the best fried green tomatoes -- dusted with corn flour -- in the Charleston area. Its perfect accompaniment is a mild horseradish sauce. Cooks also fry okra, oysters, and yellow summer squash. And no one makes better fried pickles than the bubbas in the kitchen. Locals devour the freshest shrimp in the area with -- what else? -- collard greens. But you don't have to go fried all the way. It's just assumed that all diners like hush puppies. Why not try the grilled shrimp with a tomato-basil cream sauce with lump crabmeat over pasta? The waitress told us that "the cook is very proud of his chocolate pie." After sampling it, we know why. The Post and Courier claimed that this "arsenal of incredible cakes and pies will bring you to your knees with thanks and praise."
