Victoria Chau Doc Review

The riverside Victoria Chau Doc stands proud on the banks of the Bassac, a busy but captivating stretch of the Mekong. The 10-year-old resort is beginning to look worn around the edges, but it is still your best option in Chau Doc and the staff remains friendly and eager to please. Rooms are a good size, with wood floors and fine detail throughout -- a tidy, comfortable colonial copy. Prices are based on the view (an extra $15 for a view of the river). Bathrooms are nice black-and-white-tile affairs and are large, though taps and shower heads are starting to show their age. The beds are similarly grand in size, but getting a tad lumpy. Halls are done in a comfortable antique tile, and the general atmosphere of this old riverside dandy is quite pleasant. There's a small pool and decks with great views. They have a private boat for tours or connections to Cambodia, and the helpful front-desk staff can arrange any local tours.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; free bikes; concierge; fitness center; Internet; riverside pool; room service; spa

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
