Nightlife

The major venue for entertainment is the Everyman Theatre , which is the premier sightseeing attraction of Cheltenham. You'll find a lot more theater at the Playhouse, Bath Road (tel. 01242/522852; www.playhousecheltenham.org), which presents new local, amateur productions of drama, comedy, dance, and opera staged at the dizzying pace of every 2 weeks. Tickets are £6 to £25.

Otherwise, the best center for nocturnal affairs is The Place, 33-35 Albion St. (tel. 01242/570583; www.theplacenightclub.co.uk), which is entered from High Street. It offers three floors of fun, with loud music blaring everything from R&B to hits from the Reagan era. Cover ranges from £5 to £10, but it's most often free if you enter before 10pm. The Place is open Monday and Wednesday to Saturday 9pm to 3am.
