Getting There -- From Easton, take U.S. Route 50 north to Route 213; then follow Route 213 north into Chestertown. From I-95 and U.S. Route 40, take the Elkton exit and follow Route 213 south into Chestertown.

Visitor Information -- For a map and brochures covering Chestertown and the surrounding area, contact the Kent County Office of Tourism, 400 High St., Chestertown (tel. 410/778-0416; www.kentcounty.com). While in town, stop at the visitor center at 122 N. Cross St. (tel. 410/778-9737). It's open year-round, Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Getting Around -- With no public transportation in Chestertown, touring by car or walking through the historic streets are the best ways to see the sights. High Street is Chestertown's main thoroughfare. Stop by the visitor center for brochures on a self-guided driving tour and a walking tour.

Special Events -- On Memorial Day weekend, the town reenacts the tea-tossing from the decks of brigantine Geddes at the Chestertown Tea Party Festival. On May 23, 1774, after hearing of the closing of the port of Boston, local citizens boarded the British ship in the harbor and tossed its tea overboard. The festival includes boat rides, Colonial costume parades, crafts, buggy rides, and bands. For information, go to www.chestertownteaparty.com.
