Frommer's Review
Built in 1892 and one of the oldest original wooden structures in Chiang Mai, The Gallery is the most charming of the riverside restaurants on the eastern bank of the Ping River. However, the rumor mill suggests its lease is now expired, so its time may be limited. It has been on the backpacker and tourist route for so long (even Hillary Clinton came here) that it can sometimes seem like it caters to foreigners only. Try the local fish or hor mok curry. The proximity to the river is agreeable, but apply plenty of mosquito repellent, since mosquitoes come here to eat too. Candlelight, soft Thai music, and a great view of the river -- plus the city's twinkling lights beyond -- top off what's sure to be a lovely evening of dining. Let's hope it stays.
