There are no gimmicks at Il Covo, just solid Italian cooking and a cozy, low-key atmosphere -- a combination that made this spot a neighborhood hangout within weeks of its 2007 opening. Appetizers include a full range of classic Italian dishes, from calamari and bruschetta to an insalata caprese of tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil. All pasta is made in-house, and if you're looking for a dish a bit out of the ordinary, the tasty Sardinian gnocchi topped with a tomato-lamb tenderloin sauce fits the bill. Entrees are no-frills but nicely done, including a classic scaloppine al limone (veal medallions with capers in a lemon-white wine sauce) and various grilled fish specials. The wine list -- not surprisingly -- is heavy on Italian selections. The dining room is intimate and cozy with exposed brick walls and dark wood floors.
