Frommer's Review
Although it's now more low profile than in the past -- when the Ambassador East hosted celebs including Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart -- the hotel retains a sense of elegance, from the large floral arrangements in the lobby to the mahogany four-poster beds in the king-size rooms. Executive suites have separate sitting areas; celebrity suites (named for the stars who've crashed in them) come with a separate bedroom, two bathrooms, a small kitchen, and a dining room. The Ambassador East has the usual drawbacks of a vintage building -- small bathrooms and relatively thin walls -- but its residential location makes it feel like a real getaway spot, and the surrounding neighborhood of elegant town houses makes a great place for a stroll. Best of all, you're still within easy walking distance of restaurants, Michigan Avenue, and the lakefront.

| 0 stars | Frommer's Recommended | |
| 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
