There’s no question what you’ll get if you score a seat at Big Star: tacos. And we’re not talking about boring old Americanized tacos (so don’t expect flour tortillas, cheddar, or sour cream). At this former gas station turned hipster hangout, you’re in for fancy meets traditional: steamed corn tortillas overflowing with fresh flavors, like crispy braised pork belly, queso fresco, onion, and cilantro. Add on a Big Star margarita or bourbon and take in the Wicker Park skinny jean scene. The menu is small (there are more bourbons than there are tacos), but each stuffed tortilla is pretty darn close to perfection. When the weather is nice, the large patio is perpetually packed. Note: There's another, roomier outpost in Wrigleyville that takes reservations on non-Cubs-game days (3640 N. Clark, tel. 773-857-7120).
