One of the lucky historic homes to survive the 2011 earthquake, this handsome two–story building was  built in 1920, and sits  just a few steps from Merivale Mall and plenty of cafes and restaurants. Original wood paneling throughout gives it a warm, homey  feeling, though there are fun, quirky touches (like the jukebox in the living room). All the rooms are big, amenity-laden and handsomely appointed, with cheery paint jobs (lovely heritage colors) and beds that feature top-quality mattresses. You'll find friends in hosts Alan and Karen, who greet guests with tea in the afternoon and are always around to answer questions and make suggestions. The breakfasts they cook up are truly scrumptious.
